Woodcarvers from around the Quinte area descended on the Wellness Centre for the the annual woodcarving show. The show is host to dozens of carvers of various skills and disciplines from around the Quinte area, and is put on by the Quinte Wood Carvers.

Services that protect the rights of animals are constantly struggling for funds. Especially in the Quinte area this need for funding is substantial. Although the OSPCA (Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) currently employs an animal cruelty preventions officers in our area, 600 cases a year and counting can be overwhelming. The OSPCA and affiliated services are legislated by the government, however, operate solely on the basis of donations and fundraisers.

Is the funding allocated to animal services an issue government should look into?

Bulls owner and governor Gord Simmonds and Mayor Neil Ellis signed a new lease agreement at the Yardmen Arena last month, but there is still talk about new building.

Meanwhile, empty seats exist despite the team’s success this season.

Should the city be involved in building a new combination arena/entertainment venue to seat 5,000 fans? Who should contribute to the $50 to $80-million cost? What will happen to the Yardmen Arena, which was only refurbished five years ago at a cost of more than $20 million?
