NAPANEE – Voodoo Rockfest [2] is coming to Napanee this weekend.

The Napanee Fairgrounds Sports Complex will be host to rock bands from Windsor to Montreal and everywhere in between. Some bands in the lineup have even performed with acts like Aerosmith, Our Lady Peace, Sum 41 and several other notable bands.

The lineup for the Napanee show includes the Greenday tribute band The Dookies, Guns N’ Roses tribute band Paradise City and Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band Parallel Universe.

Local original band, The Dead Sparrows [3], will be taking the stage on Saturday night at 9:00 p.m right before The Dookies.

The band’s bassist and singer, Dan Oh, encourages the public to get out to live shows like this one.

“The local talent is very impressive but you wouldn’t know that if you just sat at home on your couch watching Netflix,” he says.

“Live music is something that is kind of special. When you’re there enjoying live music it’s very easy to get wrapped up in the sound, in the volume, especially with rock shows, and it’s easy to be taken away to that kind of energetic space that tends to happen. You don’t get that in any other form of entertainment,” he continues.

According to Oh, the group originally met in high school, however they reconnected around six years ago to form The Dead Sparrows.

He says that they have played at smaller festivals and shows in places like Belleville and Trenton, however this will be their first big festival event.

“We’re just looking forward to getting back on stage and playing our songs,” he says.

Their fans can expect to hear some of their staple songs like Timothy, BFF and Work Harder Support The Rich.

If you happen to miss the show, you can find The Dead Sparrow’s music on any of the group’s social media platforms like Twitter [4], Facebook [5] and Instagram [6], or on iTunes.

Tickets for Friday’s lineup are $20, Saturday passes are $30 and it is $50 for a weekend pass. Doors open on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
