Christmas For Seniors gives back to seniors in need this holiday season

By Jenna Leslie [1]

BELLEVILLE – When local nurse Donna McFaul noticed a large number of seniors spending their holiday season isolated, she knew that something had to be done. It wasn’t until she sat down to brainstorm with her nine-year-old son, Peyton, that the idea of Christmas For Seniors [2] came about.

McFaul, a personal support worker, reached out to others at the Victoria Order of Nurses in Trenton, about the matter and a plan was born.

Christmas For Seniors is a program that provides high-risk seniors in the Quinte region with Christmas gifts.

There are two drop-off locations, one at the Victorian Order of Nurses [3] office in Trenton and another at the Christmas For Seniors tree at the Bay View Mall in Belleville.

Those who wish to participate can pick up a tag from one of the two drop-off locations and buy the suggested gift on the back of the tag. Each tag corresponds to a different senior in the area. They can then leave the gift to one of the drop-off locations and the senior will then receive their gift on Christmas day or as close to the day as possible.

It is the first year this program has run and the response has been tremendous.

The program will be accepting donations until Dec. 11.

QNet News will be speaking with McFaul and Peyton about the program later this week. Stay tuned for more.
