BELLEVILLE – A 55-year-old construction worker died while on the job Monday afternoon in Quinte West.
Just after 2 p.m., Quinte West OPP, the Quinte West fire department and Hastings-Quinte paramedics were called to the construction site off Telephone Road, the OPP say. The victim had been in a workplace accident and died from his injuries.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour says it received a report that work was being done on a trench when the trench collapsed. A ministry inspector went to the work site and issued an order to the construction company, Davis New Homes & Developments, [2] not to disturb the scene.
The victim’s name will not be released, ministry spokesperson Janet Deline told QNet News.
The regional coroner’s office and the labour ministry have taken over the investigation, the OPP say.
