BELLEVILLE – The LGBTQ+ community is outraged after a statement by an executive of Victoria’s Secret.
After a fashion show Thursday featuring models like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Winnie Harlow sporting the brand’s lingerie, chief marketing officer Ed Razek told Vogue magazine [2] that transgender and plus-sized models should not be in the show since it goes against the “fantasy.”
The company has been asked, ” ‘Shouldn’t you have transsexuals in the show?’ Razek said. “No. No, I don’t think we should. Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy.”
Upon learning of Victoria’s Secrets stance on transgendered models LGBTQ+ ally Michelle Visage is protesting the brand.
The statement went viral, and many people in the LGBTQ+ community have taken to social media to express their feelings, saying that they will no longer be supporters of Victoria’s Secret.
Trans models are also outraged. Carmen Carrera, a well-known transgender model, said in an Instagram post, “My everyday is a physical manifestation of my childhood fantasy. A strong woman with enough charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to bravely move forward in a world that seeks to erase her. I wish certain people would see beyond viewing me as just a ‘transsexual.’ I am way more than that, Victoria’s Secret.”
