Belleville Senators open season with a loss

BELLEVILLE – The Belleville Senators [2] lost 4-1 in their first game of the AHL season against the Toronto Marlies [3] on Saturday.
The Marlies took advantage of their two early power-play opportunities scoring two goals in the first period. The goals came from Marlies left-wing Egor Korshkov [4] and defenceman Timothy Liljegren [5].
The Senators’ only goal came in the second-period from left-wing Alex Formenton [6] on an assist from left-wing Michael Carcone [7] and defenceman Christian Jaros [8].
Belleville’s left-wing Nick Paul was unable to tie the game with a penalty shot early in the third period when the team was down.
The team couldn’t score on the four power-play opportunities that they had in the game. The Marlies were able to score two off of their five opportunities.
The Senators had trouble getting shots on goal in the third period. They only had seven in total, while the Marlies took 14.The Marlies took complete control of the third scoring two goals and shutting down the Senators’ offence to secure the victory.
Their next game will be the first home game of the season for the Belleville Senators. They’ll go up against the Binghamton Devils at the CAA arena Friday at 7 p.m.
