Belleville Art Association opens Colours of Fall show

By Connor Robinson [6] and Evan Doherty [7]

BELLEVILLE – Wednesday marked the transition from summer to fall at the Belleville Art Association; [8] gone were the light and flowers of summer and in came the beautiful shades and colours of fall.

On a rainy morning in the association’s small art gallery in downtown Belleville, members were busy painting. Meanwhile, mounted on the walls around them were the watercolours, acrylics and oil paintings that make up the new Colours of Fall [9] show that had just opened.

Jean Kapusta, a retiree from Belleville and an avid painter, was working on a picture of vase filled with flowers. She started painting 10 years ago, she said.

“The art association was a great fit” for her because of the camaraderie among the members, Kapusta said.

None of her works are mounted in the new show, but they have been displayed in previous exhibits. There is a new show every month at the association’s gallery, which is at 208 Front St.

Most of the works in the Colours of Fall show are paintings, but there are also some photographs of landscapes showing off the beauty of fall in the Quinte region. All of the artwork is done by members of the association.

One of those members, Patricia Kammer, was busy sketching on Wednesday.

Art “is what makes everything run better,” Kammer said.

“I mean, can you imagine a world without colour and script and things that are on the walls to attract your attention? You have to have creativity.”

The Colours of Fall show runs until Nov. 11. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.

The theme for the November show is Artist’s Choice, and there will be a winter theme in December.
