BELLEVILLE – Student government [2] held a class leader forum at noon Wednesday and heard from students about a number of issues of concern.
Among the topics discussed were concerns about classes being held during universal break; educating people more about cannabis; and the smoking ban on campus and cigarette litter.
Classes during universal break was the first topic raised.
Dorothy Ashford-Smith, the health science leader, said the leaders are going to look into that.
“It’s suppose to be universal. It’s a time for everyone in the college to not only mingle, but also to have time to yourself during the middle of the busy week.”
Another topic that was brought up was about what approach will the leaders take involving cannabis.
Dustin Wilson, the class leader for year one of the Broadcasting – Radio program [3] mentioned how cannabis still has that, “I don’t want to touch that subject and that subject is going to lead to something bad,” feel.
He said he feels there should be more knowledge out there for students.
Ashford-Smith responded by saying that the leaders could have someone from the cannabis program on campus contribute to student knowledge.
Another topic that was covered was how the removal of cigarette butt containers has led to more cigarette litter. Ashford-Smith said they will look into bringing back the containers.

Dustin Wilson said he liked that the forum involved all of the different programs and that it allows class reps to be able to talk to students.
“Maybe we could push a bit more on the talks around cannabis as well as take the overall picture of these events we’re trying push on the school and help making the younger new class leaders feel more open to take it to their perspective classes,” he said.
He also mentioned there should be more global class meetings instead of having big gap until the next one.
