COBOURG – Weston Foods [2] in Cobourg is shutting its doors, taking away up to 180 jobs.
The closure is set to take place in the second half of 2020.
“Weston Foods has made the difficult decision to close our Cobourg, Ont. bakery in the second half of 2020,” the company announced in a news release Monday. “Production from this facility will be relocated to other bakeries in the Weston Foods network.”
A year ago the company announced that it was expanding in Cobourg due to high demand for its baked goods.
The bakery has been in operation for more than 25 years and has belonged to Weston Foods since 1994, when the Cobourg location was known as the Weston Fruit Cake Company.
