Quinte residents asked to join campaign for Indigenous kids on Friday

By Brittany Woodcock [1]

BELLEVILLE – An organization that focuses on the well-being of First Nations people is asking Bay of Quinte residents to do the same this Valentine’s Day.

The Good Minds team [2] with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte offers counselling services for all First Nations people and makes sure members of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory community have access to the services they need.

Now, they’re asking Bay of Quinte residents to join their mission for Have a Heart Day [3], which is held every Valentine’s Day.

Have a Heart Day is a child and youth-led campaign advocating for Indigenous children to get the services they need: growing up safely at home, receiving a good education, being healthy and being proud of who they are. The local team is holding a free community breakfast Friday at which attendees will be asked to sign a letter of support for First Nations children. The letter will be mailed to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The breakfast will be held at the Mohawk Community Centre [4] in Tyendinaga from 7 to 11 a.m. Friday and is open to all.
