BELLEVILLE –Trenton Golden Hawks traded forward Matt Nastasiuk, 20, to the Nanaimo Clippers Saturday after he expressed an interest in playing hockey sooner rather than later.

The reason for the trade to a different league is that Nastasiuk said in a press release he wants to play hockey again as soon as possible. The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) is still on track to begin the regular season come December while it is still unclear if the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) will return this year.

The trade was for future considerations, meaning the Hawks aren’t getting anything in return at the moment but it is used as a placeholder in the trade for a player in the future.

“He is a very hard-working individual, and we are going to miss him at the Hangar. Matt has a very bright future in and outside of hockey,” said the general manager and head coach of the hawks, Peter Goulet, in the release.
