Belleville musician wins music award

BELLEVILLE – A Belleville-born musician is making some waves in London, Ontario, after winning an award for his music.

Kyle Gagne won the fan-favourite ‘Fantasy Band Guitarist’ at the Forest City London Music Awards.

The ‘Fantasy Band’ awards are given to musicians that fans would like to see in a band together.

This makes him the fourth member of his band, Tell it to Sweeney, to win a ‘Fantasy Band’ award.

“We are kind of on that path to hopefully, one day, have all the members being in the Fantasy Band award. We’ve really lucked out.”

The St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School graduate says this award comes at an especially good time, as some musicians can start to get discouraged due to COVID-19.

“When they think they are not doing anything that matters, it shows that people are still listening, people still want to hear from them, and people are still happy with the music they are putting out. So I took it as that.”

Gagne also credits Belleville for helping grow his love of music.

“Coming from Belleville, it was a pretty cool thing that I did win this award because it just showcases that the family and stuff that I come from. I mean, my Uncle Jo has been working at a lot of the different music stores in Belleville for a really long time. And my memories, really, of Belleville are just going to these music stores all the time.”

Gagne’s next steps include continuing to release new music every month with Tell it to Sweeney, and looking forward to the day when he can play, in person, with his band again.
