Quinte West council extends waived city parking fees

BELLEVILLE – Parking in the city of Quinte West will remain free following Monday’s council meeting.

On Monday, Quinte West council [2] extended the waiving of parking fees due to the extension of provincial COVID-19 lockdown measures until Feb. 9.

At its Jan. 11, meeting, council had approved waiving parking fees until Jan. 23 which was the end date of the provincial lockdown imposed in late December.

With the extension of the lockdown, councillors voted to continue to make parking free.

During similar lockdown restrictions that were in place during the spring and early summer of 2020, council eliminated parking fees in recognition of the impact of the lockdown on businesses and residents.

Under the extension, parking charges at city parking lots and on-street meters will be waived.

However, measures against illegal or dangerous parking will still be enforced and ticketed in compliance with city bylaws.

The move means the city will lose about $9,000 a month in parking revenue, according to a staff report.
