BELLEVILLE — A suspicious person call to the Quinte West OPP led to the arrest of two people on Wednesday night.

According to the OPP, officers responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. saying there was a man who could be armed, walking down Old Highway 2 near Wallbridge Loyalist Road. The area is not far from the Loyalist College campus.

The Belleville Police Emergency Response Teas and Belleville Police canine unit arrived to assist the OPP.

Students living in the apartment buildings and the townhouses at the college were asked to shelter in place, keep noise down and lock their apartment doors until they were told all was clear.

Belleville Police officers were present on campus to ensure the safety of residence students, according to a Facebook post made in a private student residence group.

Campus security was on the scene as well.

Around 10:45 p.m. students were given the all clear to return to normal activity.

An OPP news release said two people from Quinte West were arrested in relation to the call and are facing multiple charges.

They were found in a nearby abandoned residence, and no firearm was located, the release said.

Both people were held in custody and expected in Belleville court on Thursday.
