Elysia Geen is excited to be graduating and starting her career after another year at Loyalist College.
“I feel like I’ve been well prepared, from everything we discussed in the program and everything I learned at my internship,” said Geen.
After graduating from Loyalist’s advertising program, Geen came back and is now graduating from the college’s one-year post-grad public relations program. She said the program has given her the skill set to move forward with her career.
Geen did an internship at Hastings County in the destination development department. She said she felt confident doing the job because of the skills she learned during the program.
“There was nothing they threw at me that I felt uncomfortable doing, I had all the background knowledge I needed to perform the duties assigned to me,” Geen said.
She is currently interning for the summer at the college’s public relations program and hopes to get a job at Loyalist when the internship is finished.
Geen will be among the close to 2,000 graduates being honoured at this year’s ceremonies on June 7 and 8.
The convocation is divided into four different ceremonies, each with a guest speaker.
This year the speakers include Jason Myers, the president and CEO of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, who was also recognized by the consulting firm Watson Wyatt as the most accurate economic forecaster in Canada. Rod McQueen, winner of the National Business Book Award and contributor to Maclean’s and the National Post, will also be speaking on June 7.
On June 8, the speakers will be Susan McIsaac, president and CEO of United Way Toronto, and Ken Murphy, president of High Fidelity HDTV Inc.
There will be a live feed of the convocation ceremonies available on Loyalist College’s website for those who can’t attend.
