The Loyalist Lancers’ women’s soccer team has reached its halfway point for the 2013 season.

The team has a record of one win and five losses.  The only win came against the Fleming Knights.

The team has had a tough schedule so far, playing the first five games in just 11 days.

Head Coach Steve Whitehead who has been with the women’s soccer team for nine years said he, wishes they could have done better this season.

“Obviously we’re disappointed with the number of losses,” said Whitehead. “In every single game we were in it except for Algonquin, we potentially could have won two of them.”

Coach Whitehead feels that the bad scheduling could have had something to do with the way they have played.

“We played half of our season in one week, we had four games in one week, and you know that makes it really difficult,” said Whitehead. ”We looked at the west division and there are two teams that haven’t played yet, and you look in our division in the east and there is a couple of teams who have only played one game.”

Despite this adversity, Whitehead said he is still happy with the way the team has played.

“The team has been excellent so far, they’ve picked things up,” said Whitehead “They’re fast learners.”

Brianna Christopher is a first-year midfielder from Belleville. Christopher said despite the record the team is still good and are building chemistry.

“It’s a good team, we have a lot of rookies this year,” said Christopher. ”We talk a lot on the field so we are definitely comfortable with each other.”

Whitehead said the team still has hopes of making a push for the playoffs.

“If we beat Cambrian, Centennial, and George Brown, we could be in sixth place,” said Whitehead.

The Lancers next game is on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. against Cambrian.
