By: Matthew Blair

The Belleville Police Service were busy on the road this weekend.

A 47-year old female driver has been charged with failing to stop for a red light in a multiple vehicle collision Sept. 20. The accident happened at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Church Street. Three vehicles were involved with one vehicle rolling over. Two people were sent to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. There was major damage to all three vehicles.

Stunt driving was the charge in an incident involving a 47-year-old female from the GTA. On Sept. 22, an officer observed a vehicle driving at a speed of 188 km/h eastbound on the 401. Her driver’s license was suspended for seven days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Later that afternoon, the same officer stopped a second vehicle travelling at 133km/h westbound on the 401 at Napanee. Investigation revealed a speed-warning device and a 36-year-old male was charged and is expected in court in October.

Over the weekend, a 16-year-old female cyclist received minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Haig Road. She was transported to Belleville General Hospital for treatment. Witness statements have been obtained and there are no charges at this time.

And in other news:

A 57-year-old male and a 50-year-old female have been charged with possession and production of marijuana. Officers originally attended a landlord/tenant dispute at a residence on Harmony Road when they noticed vegetation near a shed on the property. Further investigation of the home led to additional charges of unsafe storage of a loaded firearm, nine counts of unsafe storage of a firearm and nine counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm. Both accused were released on a promise to appear with a court date in October.
