Ontario facing hydro hike in the coming years

BELLEVILLE – Ontario homeowners may need to find new ways to save on electricity, because there will be a 33-per-cent rise in electricity rates over the next three years.

The Liberal government unveiled its new long-term energy plan on Monday. The average monthly household electricity bill is expected to rise from $125 this year to $167 by 2016. The cost of hydro is expected to continue riseing over the next 30 years.

The new plan reflects what was heard from thousands of people in an online survey and public discussions, the government said.
