Military funeral for Trenton soldier

TRENTON – Cpl. Adam Eckhardt was given a full military funeral at Canadian Forces Base Trenton this afternoon.

Eckhardt, 29, was serving with the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry at Canadian Forces Base Suffield in Alberta when he took his own life on Jan. 3.

The husband and father of two sons, Brycen and Peyton, served domestic missions during his military career.

He grew up in this area and played basketball and football for Trenton High School.

Many military personnel and civilians attended the service at Our Lady of Peace Chapel on the base.

The family says that instead of flowers, contributions can be made to the Brycen and Peyton Eckhardt Trust Fund, which is set up with TD Canada Trust. Cheques and cash are accepted at the Weaver Funeral Home at 29 Bay Street, Trenton.

A memorial page on Facebook has been created in Eckhardt’s honour.

“Adam’s energy, laughter, and smile will be forever missed but never forgotten,” was one of the many messages on the page.
