PETERBOROUGH – ReFrame International Film Festival is more than watching movies; it is about our community, the event’s executive director says.
The three-day festival, celebrating the latest works created by filmmakers from Peterborough community, across Canada and around the world, will take place this weekend, from Friday morning till Sunday night. The event includes a variety of films, from long features to digital interactive installations and historical projects.
“Films raise questions about social issues. They educate and make people be aware,” said Krista English, executive director of ReFrame.
The audience has grown almost fivefold since its inception in 2005, which means the thirst for beyond-the-headlines stories of justice has grown substantially , English said. The festival shows films that are not shown in other places, she added.
“We have something for everyone. It is a great opportunity for people to gather and discuss what they are interested in.”
ReFrame has brought in $583,240 to the local economy, English said, adding that she hopes it will continue to grow and expand its boundaries for other communities.
The screenings will take place in Showplace, Market Hall and The Venue. An international bazaar will provide light drinks and artisanal food and goods. Tickets are available online [1] or at Showplace.
