Belleville talks minimum wage

BELLEVILLE – The minimum wage debate is heating up locally.

It has been three years since the Ontario government raised the minimum wage to $10.25 per hour. Now human-rights and anti-poverty groups are pushing for another wage hike. This month a group called Health Providers Against Poverty called on Premier Kathleen Wynne to up the minimum wage to $14 per hour.

QNet News took to the streets, asking Belleville area residents where they stand on the issue.

Raising the minimum wage is getting mixed reactions. Organizations that work with low-income people are saying it’s necessary so that people can spend their money locally. But some business owners say increasing wages just isn’t in their operating budget.
