BELLEVILLE – With Wednesday night’s win against the Oshawa Generals, the Belleville Bulls [2] have a one-per-cent chance of making the Ontario Hockey League playoffs, according to the Sports Club Stats website [3].

The Bulls sit in last place in the OHL’s Eastern Conference with 46 points – five points back of the Ottawa 67’s and Mississauga Steelheads, who hold down the last two playoff spots at 51 points each. The Niagara Ice Dogs are also ahead of the Bulls, at 50 points, but they sit in ninth place, also out of a playoff position.

Only the Sarnia Sting and Kitchener Rangers have lower chances of making the playoffs.

Sports Club Stats calculates each team’s odds of making the post-season, how each upcoming game will affect those odds, and how well the team has to finish to have a shot.

The Bulls have five games remaining, including two more games this week. If they don’t win either of this week’s games, and any two of the three teams they’re chasing win even one game, they are eliminated from the race.

However, if the Bulls win both of their remaining games this week, and Mississauga loses on Friday, the Bulls could be just one point out of a playoff spot by Saturday.

The Bulls’ win last night ended a three-game losing streak. But they haven’t won more than two games in a row all season, so they have their work cut out for them.

However it plays out, a lot has to go right for Belleville. The chances of a playoff spot are slim – but not impossible.
