BELLEVILLE – Belleville city councillor Jack Miller will not be running for mayor in the 2014 municipal election.
An emotional Miller made the announcement on the Lorne Brooker show on CJBQ Thursday morning. Instead, Miller says he will be seeking re-election to city council.
“I believe that this decision is best for my family and I at this time in my life. It’s going to allow me to spend precious time with my wife, my daughter, my two grandchildren, while continuing to serve the community that I love.”
Miller also said he didn’t appreciate being forced to make his decision so early before the October 27th election.
“This is not the timing I would choose. This is being forced for a lot of different reasons. I don’t think it’s proper that things get forced at seven months before an election,” he said before his official announcement. “People should be allowed to make these decisions when they feel right.”
Miller’s announcement leaves the race for mayor wide open.
