Local artists are teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to raise money to build homes this weekend in Milford.
St. Philips Anglican Church in Milford is going to be holding an art show on Saturday. The event is called “An Afternoon in June,” and will be selling local, as well as international art to raise money for the home building charity.
“I think art is an amazing expression of the human soul, and without art our world would be a very drab place, and I think we have some wonderful artists locally,” said event organizer and President of the Anglican Church Women in Milford, Fran Larkin.
Larkin said when the church was selling items for another fundraiser, they received paintings from local artists and selling those paintings in a rummage sale wouldn’t do them justice. They instead decided to create “An Afternoon in June” to help Habitat for Humanity create homes in Picton.
Larkin said that working with Habitat for Humanity is a great opportunity.
“We like their approach because they feel that having a home is an important thing for people, and it is something that goes towards breaking the cycle of poverty.”
Priest in Charge of the Prince Edward-Hastings region, Reverend Canon David Smith, feels that supporting Habitat for Humanity is of extreme importance.
“It’s a great work. It gives people good housing in an affordable way,” he said. “You have a place to live so you can get your life together.”
