Two more names are to be remembered in the Alumni Gardens Memorial Grove.

The grove is a plot of trees and benches located beside Loyalist’s new residence buildings. The trees and benches are meant to remember a member of the Loyalist College community who has passed away.

The two names to be remembered this year are Ron Boyce and Aaron Murray.

Ron Boyce became manager of the library in 1978 and retired as director in 1992. He passed away at the Belleville General Hospital on September 22nd, 2013 at the age of 82.

Aaron Murray was a 21 year-old student at Loyalist College who died in a car accident near Peterborough, after working an overnight shift at Trent University in April.

“He was a wonderful young man who made many contributions to the college community,” Loyalist College president Maureen Piercy told the Toronto Star following the crash.

Murray left behind his fiancé and three-week year old son.

Michelle Randolph, the alumni services coordinator at Loyalist College has been a part of an initiative to revitalize the garden that started in 2012.

“The gardens is meant to remember staff and students that meant so much to the Loyalist community,” Randolph said.

Randolph said there could be a third dedication at this year’s ceremony, but she couldn’t confirm it yet, as it is still only a proposal.

The grove was first started 1995 and in that time has honoured over 40 students, staff and alumni. This year the ceremony will take place on August 27th.*
