BELLEVILLE – Got a hole in your new shirt? Telephone that will not ring? A trumpet that does not sound quite right? Do not throw it away! Bring it down to the Quinte Area’s first Repair Cafe [3] this Saturday from 12 to 4 at the The Core Arts & Culture Centre in downtown Belleville.

Quinte Waste Solutions [4], Loyalist College [5] and Bay of Quinte Tourism [6] have all partnered and are donating time and financial sponsorship for the first annual Quinte Repair Cafe.

Repair Cafe is a pop-up event with the intent of teaching people how to make small repairs to things that may be thrown out otherwise.

One of the event organizers, Becky MacWhirter says the event is aimed at preventing things ending up in the landfill that can be reused.

“The idea is to provide a community forum, where people from the community can come in with their broken or damaged items, and they work with a repair specialist to learn how to fix things themselves.”

Repair Cafe is a not-for-profit event that started in the Netherlands and quickly spread around the world. Other events in Canada include in Toronto, Calgary and Vernon.

Watch Twitter and QNet News, as Candice-Rose Gagnon will be live reporting from the event on Saturday.
