BELLEVILLE – Is there such a thing as work-life balance?
A seat on Belleville [3] city council is a part-time job. For those who are retired, it’s their primary job. But for those with full-time jobs already, it can be a struggle to balance work with life.
Meet Belleville’s four newly-elected councillors – Kelly McCaw [4], Mitch Panciuk [5] and Mike Graham [6] (Belleville) as well as Paul Carr [7] (Thurlow [8].)
Kelly McCaw is a Belleville-born wife and mother of two. The real estate agent with Royal LePage [9] also runs two pizza restaurants and a property management company with her husband. Despite all that, she wanted to take a run at council.

Mitch Panciuk, a husband, father of three and the franchisee of Belleville’s Boston Pizza [11], came in second to Neil Ellis in Belleville’s mayoral race four years ago [12]. He talks about his plans to make room in his life for new city council responsibilities.

Paul Carr is a married father of two who held a council seat in Thurlow Ward from 2000 to 2003. He works as a manager at a federal institution for the Correctional Service Canada [14]. Carr reflects on his reasons for running for office.

Retired Belleville Police [16] inspector Mike Graham was a police officer for 32 years. He is a father of two and has two grandchildren. Graham says he’s in a bit of a different position than the other new councillors because he’s retired. Running for council was something he always wanted to do.

The councillors agreed that timing is key when it comes to balancing work and life, saying they ran for their seats in last month’s municipal election because the timing felt right.
