Loyalist students learn how to curate art show

By Candice-Rose Gagnon [1]

BELLEVILLE –Loyalist Media Art and Design Students [2] are experiencing first hand what it’s like to run an art exhibition and they’re calling on local artists and students to participate.

Working with the Quinte Arts Council [3], the Media Art and Design students are looking for art submissions for the 4th annual open exhibition titled MAD Showcase at the college.

The MAD Showcase is a part of the curatorial practices course in the Media Art and Design program.

“They learn how to do an open call, schedule a caterer, do all the advertising… all facets of an art show from hanging to completion,” says the course’s professor, Chrissy Poitras.

She says there are 13 artists participating in the student-run art show so far.

“It is a good mix of both former and present students.” she added.

Interested artists must be students of the program or members of the Quinte Arts Council. The drop off date for pieces is Nov. 26 and space is limited. Contact Chrissy Poitras [4] for details and times.

The show starts on Dec.3 and runs until Dec. 10.
