BELLEVILLE – Trees that can save the planet and historical forces that shape our forests are the major topics that will be discussed at the Trenton Woodlot Conference this Friday.
This is the 25th year for the event, which is being hosted by the Hastings Stewardship Council [2]. Speakers at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Trenton will show and tell the event-goers about current issues in local forestation.
The featured speakers at the event are scientist and writer Diana Beresford-Kroeger and forestry-industry expert Peter Hynard.
Beresford-Kroeger is giving a presentation called A Woodland World: Bowing to Nature. As a scientist she specializes in classical botany and medical
biochemistry. She has won awards for her work with trees and is currently working on a film project called 10 Trees That Can Save the World [3]. She is speaking on how trees and forests are the foundation of life.
Hynard is giving a speech called Shaping our Forests. He is a registered professional forester with over 40 years of experience in forest management and planning, and worked for many years with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. He will focus on the more local historical aspect of forestry, touching on geology, glacial geology, natural disturbances and human forces that affect forests.
