Will Black Friday work clash with studies?

BELLEVILLE – Black Friday is quickly approaching and retailers, expecting large crowds, may be looking for staff to work shifts during the school day.

On Monday, QNet News spoke with first-year paralegal student Mackenzie Hiltz about her experience last year on Black Friday when she was working at a Hallmark store in Calgary.

Hiltz said her employer booked her for a long shift even though she had classes scheduled at the same time. Her boss told her if she didn’t work the shift she would be fired, she said. Meanwhile, her professor was unhappy that she missed her classes that day, she said.

QNet News is looking to speak to Loyalist students who have been asked by their employers to skip class on Black Friday.

More to come.
