Belleville – The Toronto Dominion (TD) Bank [2] is closing the doors of its Marmora branch and merging with the branch in Havelock.
TD has had a branch in Marmora, population 1500, for more than a century.
Customers who use the branch there will now have to travel to Havelock – nearly twenty kilometres away – or to Madoc for their banking needs.
The bank says it decided to close the location after reviewing how many customers go into the branch to do their banking. The official closure is set for sometime in the summer of 2015.
Meghan Thomas, corporate and public affairs manager for TD, said in an email Tuesday afternoon that it wasn’t an easy decision.
“It was after considering a number of factors that we arrived at this decision after careful business evaluation,” she wrote. “We are in the process of sending notification letters to our customers to inform them about the merger shortly and will also hold an information session to discuss the merger and how we can assist with their banking needs on a go-forward basis.”
