OPP starts festive RIDE program for this Christmas holiday

By Denissa Palmer [1]

BELLEVILLE – Nothing says Christmas like a big glass of eggnog. But be sure it’s alcohol free.

To start off the Christmas season, the Ontario Provincial Police [2] has started the festive RIDE program.

The festive RIDE program [3] is when the OPP increases the amount of officers on the road to ensure people are not drinking and driving.

The focus is to minimize and eliminate motorist drinking and driving on local roads and highways.

Officer David Ludington from the Quinte West OPP said “We are doing a good job with keeping impaired drivers off the roads.”

He says the Quinte West OPP is very satisfied with how effective the program has been over the past few years.

The RIDE program is offered all year round, but the festive RIDE is dedicated to keeping everyone safe during the holiday season.

“People usually have more access to alcohol during this time of year. With all the Christmas parties, and family gatherings happening, it’s everyones responsibility to ensure that your community stays safe.” Ludington said.

This year’s annual festive RIDE program started November 25 and will run through until January 1st.
