High school hockey showdown

By Taylor Broderick [1]

BELLEVILLE – The boys hockey team at Centennial Secondary School [2] is currently dominating but it will soon be facing off against another great team – the St. Theresa Titans.

Coach Jeff Culhane of the Centennial Chargers’ hockey team says its record is six wins and no losses which makes them the only undefeated team in the league this season.

St. Theresa Secondary School [3] is following closely behind with six wins and only one loss, Culhane says.

Culhane said the hockey team has great leadership with its captain Nick Hoey, who won athlete of the month for January.

“We have a very hard working team that is committed to winning and playing the roles they are asked to play,” Culhane said.

With a hard-hitting defensive group and three lines that are skilled at putting the puck in the net, the team is very coachable, he said.

“Overall, we have a high skill level and a very good work ethic,” he said.

The Centennial Chargers face off against the St. Theresa Titans on Feb. 5 on Rink A at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre [4].
