BELLEVILE – A 20-year-old Codrington [3] man is facing several charges regarding a car accident on West Moira street at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road railroad tracks over the weekend.

Belleville Police [4] received a call around midnight on Jan. 25 saying a car was flipped over in the middle of the railway tracks near the intersection. Once police arrived, the Belleville fire department was called in to clean up a spill caused by the wrecked car. The tracks were temporarily shut down as the clean up took place.

As the police carried out an investigation, it turned out the car was reported stolen. Following some tracks in the snow near the crash site, four people were found. All had minimal injuries. After questioning, it was discovered the driver of the car was the same person who had called to report the stolen vehicle.

The driver was charged with public mischief, obstructing police, careless driving, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and novice driver with a blood alcohol level above zero.

The man is set to appear in court on March. 5, 2015.
