BELLEVILLE – Bay of Quinte Tourism [6] says there is no shortage of winter activities in this area to keep you busy for study week.
Bay of Quinte Tourism communications coordinator Laura Voskamp says along with winter outdoor activities there are many family day activities and special events going on.
Snowshoeing, fat biking, cross country skiing are just some of the many popular winter outdoor activities to take advantage of at the Quinte Conservation Areas [7] Voskamp says.
One winter activity that has grown in popularity in this area is fat biking [8] she says.
Fat biking is like regular biking, but the wheels are wider so it makes riding on snow and sand easy.
Fat bikes are available to rent at Ideal Bike [9] she says.
Voskamp even owns her own fat bike, and says the Quinte Conservation Area is perfect for winter activities like snowshoeing, fat biking, cross country skiing.
Family Fishing Weekend [10] is Feb.14-16 across Ontario she said ” If you have the set up or know someone who does, ice fishing this weekend is free if you already don’t have your licence.”
“There is a network of trails, and there is one really close to Loyalist at the foot of Wallbridge Loyalist road. Pretty accessible for students,” she said. “Fat biking is an awesome thing, and I think a lot of students would really like it.”
The Glanmore National Historic Site [11] is hosting the Gift of the Nile, a traveling exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum starting Feb. 13,. No additional admission is charged for this special exhibit. See antiquities from Egypt and a real mummy.
“Works on Paper” exhibition at the Oeno Gallery [12] in Prince Edward County closes Feb 15., this is the last chance to check out over 10 paper artists.
Family Day [13] kicks off reading week on Feb. 16, with some family oriented events around the area.
Sandbanks Provincial Park [14] is where SnowFest is hosted on Feb. 16. Organized by the Friends of Sandbanks, it’s a free family event from 12:30-3:30. Try snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and other winter activities outside. Inside, warm up with entertainment, food and drinks.
The Royal Canadian Air Force Museum of Canada [15] is hosting family day events. Be one of the first 100 people to arrive at the museum and receive a free lunch bag, take a family portrait in old fashioned uniforms, and even take a ride in a simulator. The museum is open from 10 AM to 5 PM.
For those students who are of legal drinking age, Bay of Quinte Tourism has a Cheddar and Ale Trail [16], offering a map of local beer and cheese producers.
