BELLEVILLE – A school bus with 10 students ages five to 11 ended up in a ditch outside Cobourg Thursday morning after it slid off the road.

At 7:51 a.m. Northumberland OPP responded to a call about an accident involving a school bus on Community Centre Road near Northumberland Heights Road in the village of Baltimore. They found the bus off the road. Icy pavement was a factor, the police said.

The driver and the driver’s 11-month-old infant were also on the bus.

A school-bus official, a police officer and an off-duty firefighter carried the kids off the bus through waist-deep snow to another bus that came to collect the children.

Two of the kids, nine and 11 years old, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The OPP are investigating.
