BELLEVILLE – The graduating class of Loyalist’s art and design foundation program showcased their art in the year-end juried exhibition.

A panel of judges were presented several works of art from the students Wednesday evening. The judges picked each student’s best works to be displayed in the Link Lounge gallery on campus.

Samantha Hein is one of the students who displayed their art.

“I think this was an amazing experience. I really enjoyed it! I got to make a lot of art and actually get to show it off to people,” said Hein.

Hein says her favourite piece is based on the Salem witch trials and drawn in pen and ink.

“It was my favourite because it was a new medium that I just tried. It was something that really fit with my style,” said Hein.

Another student, Shayna Reid, says she’s hoping the exhibition will give her some exposure.

“I’m moving my career forward; I have no idea where it’s going to take me. I’m kind of hoping to get the word out,” said Reid. “When you start out being an artist it’s really hard. A lot of us are literally starving artists.”

“We want this show to say ‘this is what we’ve been doing all year locked up in our studio,'” Reid added.

The Art and Design Foundation program is a one-year certificate course that allows students to dabble in a wide range of artistic techniques, according to the course description [5].

On Friday the faculty and students of art and design foundation will be hosting a bookbinding class in the gallery. Students and faculty are encouraged to drop by.
