Help arrived at the right time

BELLEVILLE – A Belleville woman is lucky after a close call in the Moira River on Wednesday evening.

After a call to the police station just after 5 p.m. the Belleville Police Service [2], Hastings- Quinte Paramedic Service [3]and the Belleville Fire Service [4] rushed out to the east bank of the river near Victoria Avenue.

The woman was knee deep in the water when her foot got stuck under a rock, Inspector Chris Barry told QNet News. She tried to sit down and free her foot, but the current picked up, Barry said. She was unable to get up and was awaiting help.

Officers from the police and fire departments went into the river and got the woman out. She was taken to Belleville General Hospital.”

Police advise the public against swimming in that area of the Moira River.
