Local café juicing for health

By Michelle Poirier [1]

BELLEVILLE – Café e [2] in downtown Belleville is working to squeeze unhealthy eating habits out of locals.

The café is hosting a juicing seminar Thursday night to show people how they can improve their health through diet.

It is the first juicing event that Café e has hosted. Manager Kathy Stevens said the café, which is at 357 Front St., has just started to sell fresh juices every morning.

“We have a juice of the day at Café e every day that includes fruits and vegetables. It’s a full meal,” Stevens said.

This event is a good way to launch the new menu and it is definitely needed in Belleville, she said.

“You just have to take a look around at the obesity epidemic that is plaguing our children. Also the amount of money people spend on pharmaceuticals when a lot of their health issues can be corrected with proper diet and food. Juicing provides a lot of antioxidants that can push a lot of disease out of your body.”

Delane Cooper [3], a self-proclaimed foodie and juice lover, is leading the seminar. Cooper learned to cope with fibromyalgia by changing her diet. She then went on to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

“I am sharing my 14 years of experience of alleviating my fibromyalgia symptoms and knowledge gained as a result,” she told QNet News in an email.

The seminar, called Introduction to Juicing: A Step Towards a Healthier Lifestyle, will be using fresh produce provided by Green Wheel Farms [4] of Belleville.

The event runs from 6 to 7:15 p.m. To register for the seminar, email JuiceRawGems@gmail.com [5].
