BELLEVILLE – Will Belleville soon be home to a professional soccer team?

According to media reports, members of FC Kingston, a professional soccer club, are looking for local support to make it happen.

With enough support, local team Quinte-Belleville Royals will be submitted for approval to play in the 2016 season of League1 Ontario [2]. League 1 is a competitive soccer organization comprised of 13 teams across the province. The season for League 1 lasts from May to October. Deadline for this application is Oct. 23.

The Royals would play home games at the Mary Ann Sills Park [3], Field 2.

Lorne Abugov, chairman of Kingston-Belleville soccer, explains the tier system for Canadian soccer:

To register with League 1, the Royals will need a group of businesses for sponsorship. They are also looking for a local fan base to help sell tickets and merchandise.
