BELLEVILLE – The identity of the body found after a home explosion north of Port Hope on Oct. 20 has been identified as the homeowner.

Northumberland OPP reported the body of 66-year-old Michael Vanherreweghe was found in the debris.

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown and the OPP and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office [3] continue to investigate.

Northumberland OPP Const. Steve Bates told QNet News that the house on Lunny Lane that was destroyed in the blast was on the market for $1.5 million.

Bates added that the explosion was big enough to be felt at a great distance.

“Members of the public and even officers I’ve worked with said that they felt it down in the Cobourg area, which is approximately 30 kilometres away. It was quite a significant explosion,” said Bates.
