By William Proulx [1]

BELLEVILLE – The Ontario government announced Tuesday that the province will be investing $13.5 million in Ontario’s After School Program [2].

The increased funding for the program intends to help children develop confidence and healthy eating habits, be more active and achieve more in school.

Activities that the program promotes includes arts and crafts, personal health and wellness education, nutrition instruction and sports. These services are delivered by organizations such as YMCA [3]s, Boys and Girls Clubs [4], community health centres, aboriginal and First Nations organizations and other local grassroots organizations. The programs are provided at schools, community centres and First Nation communities.

The additional money will help fund an added 130 organizations across the Ontario, the government said.
