Politicians rally for TMH

By Samantha Reed [1]

BELLEVILLE  – All three levels of government are working together to save Trenton Memorial Hospital.

Northumberland Quinte West MPP Lou Rinaldi created the Trenton Memorial political working group in hopes of keeping a hospital in Quinte West.

MP-elects Neil Ellis and Kim Rudd are among the many politicians who are said to be involved in the group. Quinte West mayor Jim Harrison and Brighton’s mayor Mark Walas will also be working with the group.

This is not the first group created to save the hospital. Our TMH [2], an advocacy group created by local residents, is working to make the hospital a non-profit organization.

Rinaldi has previously worked with Our TMH.

The announcement of layoffs at Quinte Health Care and the movement of some surgical services from TMH to Belleville General has sparked outrage among citizens living in the area. Rallies have been held at both Trenton Memorial Hospital and Centennial Park to protest ongoing cuts.

The Ontario Health Coalition [3] is holding a rally at Centennial Park tomorrow at noon.

More to come.
