BELLEVILLE – A fundraising campaign to sponsor Syrian refugees has been launched through local churches in the Quinte region.
The Quinte West Ministerial Association is sponsoring a family and has the goal of raising $40,000 to support the family once they reach Canada. A total of over $6,000 has already been raised.
The Mennonite Central Committee [4], the organization that holds the formal sponsorship agreement with the federal government, has been working with the Association since October.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced [5]yesterday that Canada will be accepting only women, children and families. This is a part of the Liberal government’s plan to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees into the country before the end of the year.
