BELLEVILLE – Police are investigating eight car break-ins this past weekend in Centre Hastings. [2]
In one of the break-ins, a car was stolen from a driveway in Tweed [3] early Sunday Morning.
The car was idling in a driveway to defrost on Moneymore Road. The model of the car is a dark grey 2012 Mazda 3 with the licence plate BNPK 187.
Additionally, several unlocked cars were broken into across Centre Hastings. Five of the cars broken into were on Gray Road while two more were entered into on Boundary Road. Purses, wallets, cash, identification and sunglasses are among items that were stolen.
Central Hastings OPP [4] has listed several safety precautions to prevent vehicle break-ins including:
- Keep your vehicle locked at all times and keep your key on you.
- Never leave your engine running unattended.
- Keep your vehicle clean and empty. Take all valuable items such as purses, computers, cell phones and any change with you.
- If you have to leave anything in your car, store it in a closed compartment.
- Park your vehicles in well-lit areas. If you have a garage, use it and lock the door.
