Students see poverty up close on trip to the Dominican Republic

By Nick Ogden [1]

BELLEVILLE – After a week-long trip to the Dominican Republic [2], students from St. Paul Catholic Secondary School [3] in Trenton have learned what poverty means.

The 10 students who went on the trip stayed with families in one of the poorest parts of the Dominican Republic. While there, they visited schools, markets and food-processing plants, and participated in many traditional customs.

Naomi Dunleavy, a Grade 11 student at St. Paul, went on the trip. She shared with QNet News her experience and how it has changed her view of poverty.
