BELLEVILLE – Loyalist Lancers athletes were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of 11-year-old Thomas Martin this week.

Thomas, of Belleville, died after a two-year battle with Gliomatosis cerebri [2] brain cancer.

In December 2014 the Lancers held a fundraiser [3] called Lancers Against Cancer to help Thomas and his family. Adam Strickland, captain of the men’s volleyball team, let Thomas shave his head to raise money for cancer research.

“It was a game I will never forget. The way everyone came together for Thomas was something that I’ll always remember,” said Sydney Moorman, who has been playing basketball for the Lancers for the past three years.

Thomas affected many Lancers  by always having a positive attitude and a fighting spirit.

QNet News reporter Callie Jackson interviewed members of the Lancers about Thomas’s passing this week. Here’s the story.
