BELLEVILLE – Quinte West [2] council has committed $100,000 to the operating budget of the Quinte International Air Show [3].

The show, which for many years drew tens of thousands of visitors to Canadian Forces Base Trenton [4] but has been absent for the past few years, returns this June. Council’s funding commitment include $20,000 to be a sponsor of the event.

After council’s vote in favour of the $100,000 contribution Monday night, Mayor Jim Harrison said he is “very pleased” about the support:

“The air base from my perspective is the life of this community. Without that, I don’t know where we would be.”

Council established a committee consisting of councillors Duncan Armstrong, Rob MacIntosh, Rob McCue, Michael Kotsovos and Harrison to oversee the municipal spending on the air show.

Harrison said he hopes one thing the committee will be able to do is set up transportation to the show for visitors who arrive by way of the Trent Port Marina [5] and Via Rail [6].
