Thursday sports roundup

By Ashley Clark [1]

BELLEVILLE – The Toronto Blue Jays [2] will be facing off against the Texas Rangers [3] after winning their Tuesday night wild card game 5-2 against the Baltimore Orioles [4] in extra innings.

The two teams begin their best-of-five series for the American League division title against a background of tension. The players brawled during a game in May. Last year, during the final game of their battle for the division title, a bat flip [5] by the Jays’ José Bautista after a three-run homer aggravated the Rangers. The Blue Jays won the series.

This year’s series begins Thursday at 4:30 p.m. EDT in Arlington, Texas.

On campus, the Loyalist Lancers [6] women’s soccer team tied 2-2 against the Fleming Knights Wednesday night.

The Lancers men’s rugby team will also be facing off against Fleming this week. The team will play Thursday at 8 p.m. on the Loyalist College [7] field.

The college’s women’s rugby team has announced it will no longer be playing this year. Find out more here [8].

In hockey, the Trenton Golden Hawks [9] will be facing off against the Kingston Voyageurs [10] at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Duncan McDonald Memorial Gardens arena [11].
