BELLEVILLE – The Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward [4] is hosting its annual book sale to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer disease.
The sale takes place at the Bay View Mall Tuesday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Tuesday, prices are as marked. On Wednesday all books are half price, and on Thursday you can fill a bag for $5.
Each year the society has three book sales, taking place in February, June and November.
Amelia Huffman, society’s public relations & fund development co-ordinator, said this sale was their biggest one so far. This month the society has around 1,000 books to sell and hopes to raise over $3,000.
“We are very well- known for this book sale,” said Huffman. “People love to support us by buying or donating books.”
The society usually raises $3,000- 4,000 per sale. Huffman said unlike some other charities, their funds stay locally. The money raised at the sale go to local families, education and support programs, individuals living with Alzheimer, and to workshops and support groups.
“We are lucky to have such a supportive and reading community,” said Huffman. “Many people spread the word of mouth about us. We have lots of returning clients each sale and always look forward to seeing them.”
